Discrimination

Discrimination can be painful, even lethal, when it is negative. It’s one thing when you’re chosen for a promotion, but it’s another devastating experience when it creates some level of punishment. People experience discrimination every day (good and bad). People see you and immediately make a judgment and treat you what they’ve concluded about you. Their treatment may be subtle (you just feel it, but you can’t explain) to extreme (you’re a victim of harassment, bullying, or more). EWF, works with you to understand what’s happening to you and help you develop a plan of action around it. Some articles related to challenging stigma and discrimination include Challenging Stereotypes: An Action Guide, (and in PDF format) (Center for Mental Health Services) and Fighting Stigma, This article is also available in Spanish (National Mental Health Consumers' Self-Help Clearinghouse). Some national hotlines inlcude, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission 1-800-669-EEOC, Equal Rights Advocates 415-621-0672, 1800-839-4372, 24 hr line: 415-621-0505.
