Cultural Misunderstandings

America has been coined the “melting pot” due to the wide range of cultures comprising the country. Exposure to other cultures has grown with today’s global connections via the Internet. While some differences can seen, subtle cultural differences that aren’t observed can be misunderstood. For instance, being on time and being chronically late can create tension in relationships. But, did you know that “time” can be culturally relative? Or, how about not asking questions out of fear of embarrassment? That may also have cultural roots. Patience and acceptance improves when you understand that certain behaviors are cultural and not personal—leading to better relationships. EWF works with individuals, families and organizations to promote multicultural understanding, while addressing other myths and stereotypes that lead to common difficulties between people.
