Why Work and Family?

Now, more than ever, professional and personal boundaries have blurred as greater numbers of people work from home and often rely on web-based video conferencing for meetings. While working from home has been a blessing for many, there can be a downside (for the person, family, and organization) if it is not managed well.

For instance, working from home can add dangerous stress levels when there is too much work or toxic workplace problems that creep into the sanctuary of home. Dangerous stress levels and health impacts can also get exacerbated when a person has a difficult time managing boundaries and/or is living in a state of constant reactivity to deadlines and crises versus living from a place of empowered responsiveness.

Workplaces can also face negative consequences when critical relationship building opportunities are missed, leading to more frequent miscommunication mishaps and increased power struggles.

A toxic organizational culture can also set in when employees get treated like disposable instruments for commerce instead of valuable human beings who share their gifts. Some leaders and teammates can forget (or lack knowledge) that people need a fundamental sense of belonging, respect, and appreciation for their contributions. It is important to realize that dysfunction in the workplace can eat more profits than training revolving staff.
